Phuket Country Club

 Long a favorite with visitors to Phuket, the 27 holes at Phuket Country Club are just a short 10 minute drive from Patong and about 15 minutes from Phuket Town. Phuket Country Club has two courses, the very popular 18 hole “Old Course” and the newer, more challenging 9 hole “Country Club Course”. Both courses were deigned by the famous Thai course designer, Dr Sukitti Klangvishai. The Club features the full range of facilities one would expect of a world-class golf course.

THE OLD COURSE

Every hole on the 18 hole resort-style “Old Course” provides a different playing experience. Opened in 1989, this is a fun/user friendly course set in a valley with the course meandering through hills and limestone cliffs. Three distinct environments are traversed : 6 holes in undulating hills, 6 holes on the level and 6 holes through landscaped forest. Whilst the course is not humiliating or intimidating, wayward shots are severely penalized.

The 567 yd, par 5, 10^th hole on the Old Course is one of the most unusual holes. A dogleg right that snakes around an enormous lake, the pin is reachable in one! To achieve this feat, one must aim at 90 degrees to the fairway and be able to carry the shot 240 yards over water.

THE COUNTRY CLUB COURSE

The Country Club Course is a challenging 3,575 yard, par 37, 9 hole layout for low handicap golfers. The picturesque beauty of the scenery and layout somewhat softens the difficulty of the course which is not easy as wayward shots are penalized either by the water hazards or OB’s. Water comes into play on every hole. With 5 tee boxes at each hole, golfers have the choice of making it less of an ordeal. The distinct feature is water which comes into play 90% of the time. Probably more than any course in Phuket, the Country Club Course is a real test of golfing skills.

Visitors to Phuket Country Club must wear “spikeless” or “soft-spiked” golf shoes.
